My husband (who I didn't know peeked at this board as often as he does) hastened to remind me that it wasn't HIS family who hosted the foster sister/brother marriage feast, but his mother's second husband's second cousin eighteen times removed who did. (I'm exaggerating on the last--but it STILL really wasn't his very wonderful, quite proper northern Irish stock gazing at the happy couple).
I have a friend whose husband has cattle rustlers lurking in his family tree (or hiding out there from the law, more likely) and he's quite proud of it--it probably answers a few questions about him! I always find it enormously interesting to know what's gone on in the past and how that affects the directions that families take (that probably answers a few questions about me and my writing as well.)
